Cube-Vision Support
Move by move solve reconstructions and analysis using only your smartphone's camera.

How a solve works
-
1
Scramble and start
Use the generated scramble on screen, with white top green front. Your scramble must match the displayed scramble or tracking will fail.
-
2
Solve on camera
The front camera records while you solve. Keep the cube in the yellow frame and reasonably well lit and the recording is all the app needs.
-
3
Review the reconstruction
Move extraction runs in the background and the finished solve appears in your stats with its move list, per-move times, phase split and PLL/OLL case.
Frequently asked questions
Getting started
Do I need an account or an internet connection?
No to both. There is no sign-up, and all video processing runs on device.
Which cubes are supported?
Cube-Vision expects a stickerless cube with the standard color scheme. Stickered cubes are not supported yet. Move tracking for cubes with more faded colors, bright colored internals, or especially bright logo stickers may be less consistent.
Move extraction
Extraction is slow. Can I speed it up?
There are several factors that affect move extraction speed. Timer hand tracking is the largest, as this will block reconstruction from running in the background while a solve is in progress. If you are a beginner or know you have lower burst TPS, you can also try lowering the extraction FPS in settings.
The reconstruction is wrong or missing moves.
Reconstructing a solve is incredibly complex, and perfect 100% accuracy will likely never be achieved. However, in good conditions Cube-Vision can get close to 100%. If you see 3 or more failed solves in a row this is a strong sign that your environment is particularly difficult. Factors that reduce performance include:
- Bad camera angle: if only one face of the cube is visible to the camera for much of the solve this is not enough information for consistent tracking. Position your camera so that the top and front of the cube are visible for most of the solve. The camera should be aligned head on with the front of the cube, not at a 45 degree angle (as this makes it difficult to determine which face is the front face).
- Bad lighting: strong colored lighting, most commonly strong warm light, makes tracking more difficult. The model should handle this in most cases but if you seeing tracking fail consider finding more neutral lighting.
- Other cubes in frame: Cube-Vision does not distinguish between the cube you are holding and a picture of a cube on your shirt. Be careful that there are no other cubes or pictures of cubes in frame.
- If none of these factors can explain the issue, send a video of the failed solve to me and I'd love to take a look at it. (If you've saved the video you can just use Share Solve and then send it to my email: damianpiechdev@gmail.com with the subject "Tracking Failed") I'll get back you when I've diagnosed the issue and / or ask your permission to add the solve to the training data.
Timer Hand Tracking
Hand tracking is not starting / not stopping / stopping too soon
Ensure that your hands are in frame when starting / stopping.
Refining the hand tracking is still WIP, if it continues to cause problems, turn Settings → Timer → Timer Hand Tracking off and use the tap timer instead.
Data and storage
The app is using a lot of storage.
Saved solve videos are stored on device and their storage may start to add up. Consider saving vidoes more sparingly and delete solves' videos with "Delete Video". The solve time and reconstruction will be unaffected.
Contact
If the FAQ did not cover it, please get in touch. Support for Cube-Vision is handled directly by me, the developer, and I read every message.
I usually reply within a few days. If your browser has no mail app set up, copy the address instead.
Reporting a bug
To save a round trip, it helps a lot if you include:
- Your device model
- What you did, what you expected, and what happened instead
- If possible, steps to replicate the bug are very helpful
- Whether it happens every time or only occasionally
For a bad reconstruction, the exported solve video is the most useful thing. You can easily send it to me with the "Share Solve" button → email → damianpiechdev@gmail.com if you have the video saved.
